Bereavement Support Group
Why We Are Here
We are a team from within the parish and are here to support the bereaved and to walk with them on their journey through grief. You can find a picture of us on the parish notice board in the Church porch.
What We Offer
The Group offers
· New social opportunities
· Shared experiences
· A listening ear
· A range of literature, both spiritual and practical
What We Do:
The Group was established in the parish in 1998 and a variety of activities have developed over the years.
· Deceased parishioners, relatives and friends are remembered in our November Mass for the Dead, and on our altar throughout the month of November each year. · Anniversary cards are sent out to bereaved families for the first two years. Remembrance lists are displayed in our church for each month of the year, covering the past ten years.
Monthly Meetings for the Bereaved
These meetings provide an opportunity for people to:
· meet socially,
· plan activities and excursions,
· share experiences,
· access supportive literature
· reflect and pray.
During these monthly meetings, there is the opportunity for private conversation, should the need arise. Social events we have organised include visits to Ness Gardens and the Liverpool Empire Theatre. We also try to meet occasionally for lunch, especially at Christmas. Apart from planning social events, monthly meetings include time for shared experiences over a “cuppa”, as well as time for reflection and group prayer, together with individual prayers of remembrance and thanksgiving.
Usually one of our team will visit a few weeks after a death in the family to discuss what support, if any, is needed. We can also help with advice on funeral services, hymns, readings etc. should the parish priest not be available. Where bereaved people feel unable to attend our monthly meetings but still require support, we will visit them at home.
